Visit to Lindisfarne - Holy Island

We decided to go to Holy Island today to visit my wife's Brother who runs the Lindisfarne Hotel. Unfortunately, due to poor weather, the cover photo was taken on a different - sunnier day.

The Lindisfarne Hotel

Its just over an hours drive up the A1 from Newcastle and we arrived around 12.00 - very cold outside so had a quick coffee in the Hotel before going on our walk. We strolled towards the harbour and there's plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

Fingers were already numb holding the camera but still enjoyed the walk. We've been here a few times now but today the skies were very bland and overcast - it was fine when we left Newcastle. We fancied taking to the seas so looked around for a suitable vessel.

Well we were expecting a little better so kept looking and headed towards the harbour. We had our niece with us, whos only 10 weeks old, so had to dodge the puddles with the pram - a lot of the paths were water logged today.

Well this boat wasn't much better - nearly water tight though. Hope there's something better around the next corner.

Much better but nobody around to skipper, lets go fishing instead - lobster or crabs anyone!

We'd been out around 3/4 of an hour - I didn't have a clue what to do with all that rope but BUOY was it cold.

We decided to head around the Harbour towards the Priory then back to the Hotel to get warmed up - a quick plodge first.

The Priory is quite close to the Harbour and normally looks fantastic silhouetted against a dramatic sky - unfortunately today the results had to be photoshopped with poor results.

The path and field across to the Priory were too muddy and water logged for the pram so we headed back the way we came. Hands really cold now but still enjoying taking photos as usual.

These upturned boats are a little bit worse than the last time we visited and I wouldn't like to go to sea in them - great for photo's though!

We decided to hit the tracks and wander back to the Hotel

A lovely walk and what better way to finish it off than a Sunday roast back at the Hotel. The causeway was due to flood at 6.00pm so we had 40 minutes to finish our meal and say our goodbyes. The food was fantastic, as usual, and by 5.55pm we were crossing the causeway - just long enough to catch a sunset. Yet again the skies were pretty poor so had to adjust in photoshop to get a usable shot - not very eye catching but a nice end to the day.

An hour later we were back in the house, batteries recharged and ready for another week - hope you enjoyed this little blog - hope i've done it right.

Cheers John

Book me into the hotel John, the place looks like a photographers paradise, some good shots. I particualy liked the boat Lilian and castle, the tracks and castle and ropes and lobster pots. Pity about the weather, but looks like you had a good time.

Thank you for sharing this.     Best wishes Dee.

A smashing blog John. Pity about the weather but you did give a flavour of the place with an interesting narrative. Like Jim the North East coast is one of my favourite spots but the weather can be very fickle.

Thanks for making the time to create a worthwhile blog.

Thanks all for your wonderful comments, it was a good day out. You have to check the tides and make sure you can get off before the causeway floods but its well worth a visit.

I had a few failed attempts at a blog before reading a tutorial - think it was posted by Angie. Without that I would have had no chance as the Fuji help, well - wasn't much help.

Cheers John

Hi John

A great photoblog, a happy bunch making their way around, great shots and chatty narration.

Thanks for going to the trouble of putting it together and publishing.

Nice one.

Brilliant blog, very interesting and the way you've taken such colourful pictures on such a bad weather day, making the most mundane objects look brilliant takes talent, well done.
