Festival Fun

Well after looking at a few of the blogs I decided to blog my most common photographic topic, and if any of you are looking for a different topic for photography try a local festival, you might not be welcomed with open arms at Glastonbury but have a look around, many of our festivals love the fact that someone will come along and take hundreds of photos, for free I hasten to add.  Here are some from the long wet summer of 2009...

Maryport Blues

A nice variety of pics from Maryport Blues Festival, both inside the main tent and around the town.

Cockermouth Rock Festival - Cockrock

Cockrock was a brilliant event last year and looks like this years will be even better, a multitude of bands, stages and over 3 days of music give a huge opportunity for creative shooting, and as there is always another band on try out anything you can think of.  Word of advice though don't drink the special cider brewed specially for the event I am so glad that the camera is autofocus 'cos I certainly wasn't : )

Solfest

Samba Dancers

Mud Mud Mud

Solfest is the biggest festival in Cumbria and features well known acts as well as local and up and coming talents.  Solfest had the worst weather possible this year, gale force winds, deep mud and torrentila rain.  Still it made life more interesting : )

Lakes Rock

Lales is run at a local College and features mainly younger bands from the local area, some cracking acts though only a small one day festival it presented a good opportunity to get rolling for the rest of the season.

Valentine Rock

Another local festival, just the one day but 2 stages and a good turn out, enough to keep you busy and loads of opportinities for good shots.

Whitemare Festival

So that's that a load of photos taken by my fair hands over the allegedly summer months 2009, after a couple of festivals people started to recognse me and began asking for photos, now a lot of bands have no money so I set up my website which allows the 5500 photos I have there to be downloaded for free. Bands have started using some of my shots for publicity and Demo CD covers which is great, I'll never be rich but I have a lot of people who appreciate even an amateur like myself turning up and taking time to get good shots of them.

I'll shut up now and stop wittering I hope you have enjoyed my la'al blog and maybe some of you have just found a good excuse to go to a few open air events this year.

All of these photos were taken with a Fuji Finepix S2 Pro and most with a 28mm-200mm Sigma lens, about half way through last year I bought a second hand Speedlight flash.

Now just need to get warmed up for 2010 LOL

Nice one Mark, some excellent concerts shots there, you've captured the fun and emotion of the shows very well.

Have some friends in Cleator Moor who do all these shows, their fave is the Solfest, it's nice to see some images of what Cumbria can do other than walking the hills and breeding sheep!!

well done mate

Ian

Well done. It might be a different subject Mark, but it's a cracking blog. The pictures are brilliant. Thanks for making the effort to do a worthwhile blog.

Some super shots here, and some with extreme lighting too.

I liked the shot of the kid being dragged through the mud.  You captured the moment well with the kid in focus.  Gives a real impression of haste.
